As our October meeting is on Halloween (yes, you should come in costume) we thought we would go local but a lil' bit creepy with Captive of the Labyrinth: Sarah L. Winchester, Heiress to the Rifle Fortune by Mary Jo Ignoffo.  Read, enjoy, maybe sleep with the light on...and come chat on Wednesday October 31st from 6p-8p. 

Sept. Read

In preparation for our awesome! LitQuake event (http://litquake.org/calendar-of-events/write-on-writers-to-know) we are reading another SF author this month.  Join us as we read Bone - Fae Myenne Ng's debut novel.  We will gather on TUESDAY September 25th to discuss!

August Reading

Due to a confluence of circumstances none of the members of the club could meet last month...but we all so enjoyed America Walks into A Bar that we determined we would discuss it this month instead...so for all those who missed the opportunity, get reading! This is a GREAT book....Then join us on August 29th from 6p-8p. 

July has come to San Francisco "on little cat feet."  This month we curl up in our fog drenched city with America Walks into a Bar: A Spirited History of Taverns, and Saloons, Speakeasies and Grog Shops by Christine Sismondo.  Described as a "heady cocktail of agile prose and telling anecdotes, [...] a resounding toast to taprooms, taverns, saloons, speakeasies, and the local hangout where everybody knows your name." ENJOY!

Fellow San Franciscan and neighborhood cheesemonger Gordon Edgar writes of his unexpected path to the world of cheese, taking us with him from his upbringing (Velveeta and Kraft Singles) to the cheese that landed him his first position at Rainbow Grocery (Antique Guyere) and through the invigorated artisan cheese movement that is developing across the US.  Part memoir, part guidebook, part tasting guide, our June read Cheesemonger: A Life on the Wedge promises to have a little something for everyone!

The Maltese Falcon, by Dashiell Hammett, provides one of the best detective stories...well...ever...and our May book.  And with so many cocktail options provided by our booze-loving hero, it will be quite a feat to choose just one for our cocktail!
